In remembrance of September 11th on the 17th anniversary since the twin towers fell in 2001 I take a look at some old school “retro” video games featuring the World Trade Center Towers / The Twin Towers..

Driver Parallel Lines is one of the few games made after 9/11 to have the twin towers in it, mainly because the game takes place in 1978.
I don't want to sound like a conspiracy person but I think one of the sad things about the WTC twin towers is there popularity made them a target. Like sure, they were two big towers that were twins and you can't miss it. There popularity was a great problem, and did no one think about these events? The one game: year 2xxx. In another:USA 2001. What if the government put the pieces sooner?

I grew up in CT. The planes flew over my town on the way from Boston to NYC that day. I saw the 2nd plane hit live on TV on the morning news. Will never forget that day. Time flies
The weirdest thing… is that Deus Ex isn't on this list despite literally explaining their technical inability to include the twin towers by having them both be destroyed in-setting by a terrorist attack….
Before anyone even knew that it would happen. It's not directly shown…but it's mentioned, and an inadvertent prediction of that nature is outright chilling.
I really appreciate this. As a life-long video game player collector (late '70s kid), I've been pulling screenshots to compile the same subject for a zine. Because it means a lot to me. I'll been pulling pics since about the time you made this! Totally feel you on this. I was born on sep 11 2001 right next to the building. That fell. My mum gave birth to me in between the first and second plane crash. So crazy!!!! She said she was wat hing it on tv during birth.

I got chills and goosebumps when I heard that
I was a toddler when 9/11 happened, I was probably asleep, and my sister was getting ready for school. I knew about 9/11 growing up but much later in my teens I realized how much it had changed things.
So cut to me and my sister watching Spider-Man Homecoming and our surprise that they included a scene where a plane crash lands in New York. Cut again to me playing Spider-Man PS4 and my shock when Manhattan is literally on fire. Like.. I guess we're done keeping fictional disasters that are remenicint of the attacks out of New York.
